The BJP has returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh, for third consecutive term as the party won 46 out of 60 seats in the state Assembly.
The vote count covered 50 assembly segments, held in conjunction with the Lok Sabha elections on April 19. The BJP had won 10 of these seats without contest.
Out of the 50 seats up for election, the BJP won 36. Chief Minister Pema Khandu was among the 10 candidates who won their seats unopposed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude on social media platform X, saying, Thank you Arunachal Pradesh! The people of this wonderful state have given an unequivocal mandate to politics of development. My gratitude to them for reposing their faith in @BJP4Arunachal yet again. Our Party will keep working with even greater vigour for the state’s growth.”
He also commended the efforts of the BJP workers, saying, “I would like to appreciate the hardwork of the exceptional @BJP4Arunachal Karyakartas through the election campaign. It is commendable how they went across the state and connected with the people."
The BJP had won 41 seats in previous Assembly elections, held in 2019. This year, the National People's Party (NPP) has won five seats while the People's Party of Arunachal won two, and the NCP emerged victorious on three seats. The Congress managed to win one seat, while three Independent candidates also emerged victorious.
