Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Shambhuraj Desai on Thursday issued a strong warning to comedian Kunal Kamra after the release of his latest satirical video targeting Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Getting fed up with Kamra's constant criticism of political leaders, Desai said it was time for strict action against him.
"Kunal Kamra has gone beyond all limits, and the situation is now beyond control. It's time to give him a lesson. He might be hiding somewhere, but we will trace him out and take him to task on the streets. He needs third-degree treatment," Desai announced.
He accused Kamra of repeatedly making inflammatory remarks against other political leaders, including an oblique "gaddar" (traitor) comment against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He also pointed to Kamra's earlier attacks on the Prime Minister, the Supreme Court, and now Sitharaman.
"Kunal Kamra is willfully taking part in all such activities. He has mocked Eknath Shinde, the Supreme Court, and also Nirmala Sitharaman now. The time has come for him to be given 'prasad' by Shiv Sena workers at our own discretion," Desai declared.
He remembered a previous incident when Shiv Sena workers accosted Kamra following one of his controversial videos. Speaking about the vandalism at the studio where the video was shot, Desai said, "We had already gone to his studio and offered him 'prasad' beforehand."
Highlighting the party's unyielding position, Desai cautioned that Shiv Sainiks would not think twice before taking the law into their own hands. "We are legislators and ministers, but first and foremost, we are Shiv Sainiks. Our tolerance is thinning. If we go onto the streets, we will track down Kamra wherever he is hiding and make him pay the price," he declared.
He also stated that Eknath Shinde had directed authorities to initiate legal proceedings against the comedian. "Eknath Shinde has assured us that Kunal Kamra will be dealt with according to the law. If Kamra has the courage, he should disclose his whereabouts. Our Shiv Sena workers will proceed there and confront him," Desai threatened.
Urging the police to take prompt action, Desai added, "He is making objectionable remarks while remaining in hiding. We will talk to Eknath Shinde on this today. The police will trace him and bring him out. Just as criminals are given third-degree treatment, it's time for Kunal Kamra to undergo the same 'prasad,'" he stated.
Simultaneously, as Mumbai Police issued Kamra with a second summons for his oblique hit at Eknath Shinde, the comedian went on with his ridicule. He posted another video with a satirical song aimed at Nirmala Sitharaman—his third video in five days, the last of which was posted on March 26.
