Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday appealed to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to follow the procedural norms that all members are expected to observe to uphold the dignity of the House.
The particular reason for the Speaker's observation could not be ascertained immediately. However, he stressed that all members need to behave in a manner that befits the high standards of the House.
"I have seen a number of cases where the behavior of members has fallen short of these high standards," Birla said.
Referring to the tradition of familial connections among members in Parliament, he said, "We have had father and daughter, mother and daughter, husband and wife as members of this House. In light of this, I would like to appeal to the Leader of the Opposition to follow Rule 349, which states the expected behavior of members within the House."
"Moreso, it is especially essential that the Leader of the Opposition adhere to set rules," he continued.
