The Indian government provided NCP-S president Sharad Pawar with the Z plus VIP security, the highest level, on Wednesday, official sources said.
The Union Home Ministry has ordered that the Central Reserve Police Force provide enhanced protection to the 83-year-old former chief minister of Maharashtra. Sources told PTI that a team of 55 armed CRPF personnel would be exclusively available for his security cover.
In the wake of the Central agencies that did threat assessment, which recommended adequate security for the Union agriculture minister, the Centre sanctioned the Z plus security cover that the CRPF's VIP security division will implement.
A team of the CRPF is already stationed in Maharashtra to begin this assignment.
VIP security cover levels are from the highest Z+ to Z, Y+, Y, and X.
