The BJP and the Congress locked horns on Saturday after approbation by Karnataka Governor, Thaawar Chand Gehlot, to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged misconduct case of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
The BJP has demanded his resignation to enable a free and fair probe, whereas the Congress has accused the Governor of being just an arm of the central government.
Thereafter, Large and Medium Scale Industries Minister MB Patil attacked the Governor, saying he acted at the behest of the central government, and alleged that the Raj Bhavan had become a BJP office. He said the attempt to prosecute Siddaramaiah is a part of a larger design and the saffron party on whose support the BJP has been riding for the last 12 days should be ashamed of its actions.
Patil made a case for the MUDA case being predicated on institutional mistakes and flagged former BJP government's action as being engaged in providing alternative land to Siddaramaiah's family, with BJP leaders also being present on the MUDA meeting. He decried the attempt to lay the blame on Siddaramaiah as an attempt at unjust scapegoating.
He elaborated that though the Chief Secretaries gave all required information to the Raj Bhavan about the complaint against Siddaramaiah, suddenly a notice was issued from the Governor in such haste. He was flabbergasted at the Governor's move and viewed that such kind of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by the people of Karnataka.
Further, Patil has lashed out at the Governor for his half-hearted prosecution upon the Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and BJP MLA Shashikala Jolle and said that he unduly concentrated on this MUDA case.
Patil contended the Union government of BJP, with its dirty political culture in New Delhi and Tamil Nadu, is exporting the same to Karnataka, and as part of which the emergent development is the refusal to respect this democratically elected State government TheHindu.
BJP state President BY Vijayendra defended the Governor's stand on X saying Gehlot had acted well within constitutional rights to take cognisance and authorise legal action on the basis of allegations against the Chief Minister in the MUDA scam. Vyajayendra said that if Siddaramaiah resigned from his Chief Minister's post, it would, at least, pave the way for a fair and impartial inquiry, keeping the voice of the CM's office intact as well as ensuring justice.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah prosecution was sanctioned by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot on Saturday related to alleged MUDA irregularities.
