Banerjee emphasized her skepticism, stating that she does not find the concept practical, acceptable, or in line with the principles of the federal structure. Addressing reporters at the state secretariat, she underscored the need for the ECI to approach the issue with rationality and sincerity.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee expressed her reservations about the feasibility of the 'One Nation, One Election' concept, citing concerns related to India's federal structure. In a letter addressed to Dr Niten Chandra, the secretary of the high-level committee overseeing the implementation of this idea, Banerjee urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to thoroughly assess the matter.

Banerjee emphasized her skepticism, stating that she does not find the concept practical, acceptable, or in line with the principles of the federal structure. Addressing reporters at the state secretariat, she underscored the need for the ECI to approach the issue with rationality and sincerity. According to Banerjee, this perspective is not limited to her state but resonates with the entire nation.

The high-level committee, chaired by former president Ram Nath Kovind, has actively sought input from political parties on the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal. Established in September of the previous year, the committee has conducted two meetings and extended invitations to political parties for their opinions and discussions on a mutually agreeable date concerning the concept of simultaneous polls.
