Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra entered parliament on Monday carrying a handbag emblazoned with a bold 'Palestine' tag. BJP sharply reacted to the same terming it "crass communal posturing.".
Priyanka has been vocal about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She had earlier described Israel's military actions as "barbaric and inhuman." This gesture has sparked strong reactions from BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur.
Naqvi said that the family referred to by him as "being trapped in the darkness of ignorance and arrogance will continue carrying the cloak of the family and the bag of Palestine," - in a tongue-in-cheek remark, speaking through a sarcastic tone.
He hinted that so long as they continue in this vein of ignorance and arrogance, this kind of thing will go on and on. He further lambasted Priyanka Gandhi's behavior, saying that the new MP was already goofing up, as she was hitting the stumps like a cricketer who got out. Naqvi recommended that if they continued along this road, they will only cause more chaos and confusion.
Anurag Thakur, talking to the IANS said that this incident heaved against the previous remarks done by Asaduddin Owaisi, which included taking pro-Palestinian slogans in the parliament. "Priyanka Gandhi could have done nothing about it. Because she was silent when Hindus of Bangladesh were getting oppressed," he said.
He believes that the Congress party and its leadership are focused on achieving some foreign interest rather than issues concerning the 140 crores of India.
Priyanka Gandhi's handbag was a glaring symbol of showing support for Palestine, which extended her commitment to advocating on behalf of the Palestinian people. It is not her first public statement regarding solidarity with Palestine, and she had made a demand on the previous government to come out in unity with the Palestinian people in the past. She, in this regard, shared a message through her official handle on X.
