Priyanka Gandhi Poised for LS Election Run from Karnataka and Telangana

Koppal, known for its backwardness, has six out of eight assembly segments held by the Congress. The survey indicates that it is considered a safe seat for Priyanka Gandhi. The seat is currently represented by BJP's Karadi Sanganna.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is reportedly considering contesting from two seats, one in Karnataka and another in Telangana, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to sources. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has allegedly conducted surveys in the Koppal constituency of Karnataka without informing the local Congress unit. Koppal, known for its backwardness, has six out of eight assembly segments held by the Congress. The survey indicates that it is considered a safe seat for Priyanka Gandhi. The seat is currently represented by BJP's Karadi Sanganna.

The possibility of Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Karnataka has historical significance, as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi experienced a political resurgence after winning the Chikkamagaluru parliamentary seat from Karnataka in 1978. If Priyanka Gandhi decides to contest from Karnataka, it is expected to energize Congress workers in the state, providing a boost to the party's efforts against the BJP.

Notably, Sonia Gandhi contested and won from the Ballary seat in Karnataka in 1999, competing against the late senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. The move to field a member of the Gandhi family in Karnataka has been viewed positively by state Congress leaders, who believe it would be advantageous for the party across the state.
