The Congress party announced that the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi will be flagged off from a private ground in Manipur's Thoubal district on January 14, instead of the initially proposed Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal. The change in venue was attributed to certain conditions imposed by the State government when granting permission.
The Manipur Congress president, Keisham Meghachandra, explained that despite proposing the Hapta Kangjeibung ground in Imphal for the yatra's flag-off, the state government initially denied permission. Later, permission was granted but with restrictions on the number of participants. In response to this, the Thoubal deputy commissioner provided permission for the flag-off from a private land in Khongjom area.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is scheduled to inaugurate the yatra from the revised venue. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is set to cover 6,713 km in 67 days, passing through 110 districts in 15 states, with the culmination planned in Mumbai on March 20.
