Today, in a historic event on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Saptami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the divine ritual of 'Ganga Pujan' at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Afterward, he took to the holy waters to reach NaMo Ghat, where he paid respects at the ancient Kaal Bhairav temple, seeking his blessings, and more importantly, his permission—often called 'Kashi Ke Kotwal'—before filing his nomination for a third term.
In the spiritual culture of Varanasi, it is customary that every visitor seeks Kaal Bhairav's permission before beginning any important task. Before speaking to the press during the cruise, the Prime Minister recalled coming to Varanasi for the first time in 2014, following what he said was an inner calling of Mother Ganga. He said it is a very emotional moment for him, comparing Mother Ganga's nurturing to that of a mother; the statement is all the more poignant now that his real mother is no longer in this world.
He is expected to file his nomination at around 11:30 a.m. The event is bound to attract a notable audience, with twelve Chief Ministers of BJP-governed states expected to attend. Among other dignitaries, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah, leaders of other NDA partners, will also be present to lend further significance to the occasion.
