Addressing reporters in Majuli, Sarma disclosed, "A considerable faction of Congress members in Assam is inclined towards joining the BJP. However, due to logistical constraints within the party, I have refrained from facilitating such transitions."

Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, asserted on Monday that a significant number of Congress leaders in the state are poised to switch allegiance to the BJP upon his outreach.

Addressing reporters in Majuli, Sarma disclosed, "A considerable faction of Congress members in Assam is inclined towards joining the BJP. However, due to logistical constraints within the party, I have refrained from facilitating such transitions."

Sarma participated in a 15-kilometer bicycle rally in Majuli, marking the commencement of BJP's Vijay Sankalp Yatra as part of its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He remarked, "Leading up to the 2026 Assembly polls, Hindu leaders from the Congress are anticipated to align with the BJP, while Muslim leaders from the opposition party may follow suit by 2032."

Responding to Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah's threat of lodging a formal complaint against him, Sarma clarified, "My earlier statement suggesting Borah's potential as Chief Minister was not intended to be defamatory. Rather, it was aimed at elevating his political stature." Nevertheless, Sarma reiterated his prediction that Borah would join the BJP in 2025.

Sarma brushed off concerns regarding the BJP's electoral prospects amidst potential opposition alliances, asserting, "The people have already decided that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will secure a third term. Even if all opposition parties unite, they are unlikely to impede the BJP's momentum."

In summary, Sarma's remarks underscore the evolving political landscape in Assam, with shifts in party affiliations anticipated ahead of forthcoming elections, while expressing confidence in the BJP's continued electoral dominance.
