The BJP and JD(S) have taken a clear stance on the alleged sex scandal involving NDA candidate Prajwal Revanna, who happens to be the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
Senior BJP leader R Ashoka emphasized the principle of equality before the law, stressing that nobody should be exempt from legal consequences. He pointed out that former CM and JD(S) President HD Kumaraswamy has already addressed the issue, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the government to look into the matter.
The formation of the SIT follows a letter from the Karnataka Women's Commission chief to the state government, detailing allegations against Prajwal Revanna, accusing him of harassing and sexually abusing numerous women, with purported recordings of these acts.
Reports suggest that Prajwal Revanna has left for Germany since the SIT was established. Responding to the controversy, BJP state President BY Vijayendra emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth through the SIT probe.
Former National General Secretary of the BJP, CT Ravi, emphasized the impartiality of the law and its application to all citizens, while acknowledging the potential impact of the scandal on the upcoming elections.
Former Chief Minister and JD(S) state President HD Kumaraswamy asserted that those found guilty must face appropriate punishment, and the truth should emerge from the investigation.
In a significant move, JD(S) MLA Sharana Gouda Kandakur urged HD Deve Gowda to suspend his grandson from the party, citing embarrassment caused by the circulated videos and the party's commitment to respecting women.
The Congress-led Karnataka Government has taken action by forming an SIT to investigate the scandal involving Prajwal Revanna, whose father, HD Revanna, is an MLA from Hassan's Holenarasipur constituency.
The scandal has erupted just before the polling for the Hassan parliamentary seat, with its repercussions potentially affecting the remaining Lok Sabha polls on May 7.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has acknowledged the existence of obscene video clips circulating in Hassan District, depicting atrocities against women.
