The Delhi Police acted within hours of Sunday by filing an FIR into a manipulated video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It depicts him being edited to advocate for the removal of all reservation quotas, particularly against Muslims in Telangana. Sources suggest that the complaints lodged against this act of fraud came from both the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Delhi Police Special Cell Cyber Wing's IFSO unit had initiated the FIR under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the Indian Penal Code, and section 66C of the Information Technology Act. An all-out investigation has been launched into the matter.
In the complaint made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it was noted that certain fake videos have been circulating in social media websites, such as Facebook and Twitter. The intention behind such videos is evidently mischievous, and it has the potential to create mistrust among the different communities and disrupt public peace and order.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs made a detailed report along with the complaint, enumerating the different links and handles responsible for the distribution of the manipulated videos featuring the Home Minister.
The origin of this controversy traced back to a video emerging in social media websites, where there was a purported interview by Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the BJP's intentions toward ending reservation benefits for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
