PM Modi's Firm Stand Against Tax Hikes Amidst Covid, Echoed by FM Sitharaman

Along the same channel, a video featuring Nirmala Sitharaman has been doing rounds on social media, where the Finance Minister praised the excellent leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Covid-19 pandemic, and especially his resolve not to increase taxes during that period.

"Prime Minister's explicit instruction was not to burden people with additional taxes for Covid expenditures," she said in the video shared by 'Modi Story,' a popular X handle.

"The urgency demanded speedy action. Prime Minister's readiness to brainstorm and implement relief measures and schemes was commendable," Nirmala Sitharaman said.

"Even when the resources were scarce, PM was adamant about no tax hikes to cover Covid expenditures. Although we thought of increasing taxes, PM's stand was loud and clear," she reminded.

"The second important decision was to focus on providing relief to the people," the Finance Minister pointed out.

"Through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, funds were directly transferred to the accounts of the people," she added.

"To add on, PM Modi started daily meetings of ministers and district collectors. This ensured the timely supply of PPE kits, masks, and oxygen generators to hospitals that needed. She remembered in unison, the emphasis the Central government had laid in fighting the pandemic.".
