Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains consistent performance ratings and popularity in his third term, with more than 70% of women stating their approval of his leadership, as per a survey conducted by Ipsos IndiaBus PM Approval Rating.
The results of the survey reveal that over seven out of every ten women respondents were satisfied with the performance of the Modi government.
Women have also exceeded men in expressing approval for the Prime Minister, where 72% of the female respondents supported him as opposed to 64% of male respondents. This increasing support from women represents an increase from earlier polls.
The government's focus on women-oriented schemes, including the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' program, the introduction of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' for reservation of women, and its 'women-led development' policy is said to have played a major role in this increasing support.
Regionally, PM Modi's popularity continues to be strong in the North and West of the nation, while it seems to have waned in the Southern states. The survey results show that the Prime Minister gained an 86% approval rating in the North, 74% in the West, but only 32% in the South.
In some of the sectors that the Modi government was highest rated included sanitation, education, and healthcare. There were differing views, though, when one talked about topics like pollution, poverty, inflation, unemployment, and corruption.
Public approval of the performance of the government in certain sectors was 65% for education, 49% for sanitation and cleanliness, and 42% for healthcare. However, fear of poverty, inflation, and unemployment created unfavorable feedback on these fronts.
Parijat Chakraborty, Group Service Line Leader for Ipsos India, added, "Perceptions are still divided more or less equally between those who support, those who are indifferent, and those who disapprove. Certain of these challenges continue because of global economic trends since India is not completely insulated from the effects of the global slowdown, inflationary pressures, and job market volatility."
