PM Modi's Approval Rating Surges to 75% in February: Insights from Recent Survey

In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw a notable increase in his approval rating, reaching 75 percent, up from 65 percent in the previous wave conducted in September 2023, according to the Ipsos IndiaBus PM Approval Rating Survey.

Conversely, slightly lower ratings were observed in metros (64 percent), Tier 2 cities (62 percent), and among self-employed individuals (59 percent).

The south zone recorded the lowest rating at 35 percent.

Parijat Chakraborty, Country Service Line Leader at Ipsos India, commented on the survey's findings, highlighting significant government initiatives such as the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which received a 92 percent approval rating in the north zone. Other notable initiatives include the construction of a temple in the UAE, the government's independent stance on global issues, advancements in space exploration, successful hosting of the G20 Summit, and the promotion of Make in India.

In terms of performance in various sectors, the survey indicates that the Modi government has excelled primarily in education, sanitation, and healthcare.

Education System: 76 percent
Sanitation & Cleanliness: 67 percent
Healthcare System: 64 percent
Pollution and Environment: 56 percent
Poverty: 45 percent
Inflation: 44 percent
Unemployment: 43 percent
Corruption: 42 percent
Chakraborty emphasized that initiatives focusing on health, education, sanitation, gender equality, and skill development are yielding positive results and enhancing the overall environment.

The Ipsos IndiaBus survey employs a structured questionnaire and gathers responses from over 2,200 respondents from Sec A, B, and C households across all four zones of the country. Conducted monthly, the survey ensures representation from metros, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities through face-to-face and online polling methods, with city-level quotas to maintain consistency and accuracy in data collection. Weighting techniques are applied to demographics and city-class population to derive a national average.
