Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release over Rs 20,000 crore as the 17th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme during an event in Varanasi on June 8. This installment will benefit 9.26 crore farmers nationwide, according to Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
"Agriculture has always been a priority for the Prime Minister in his last two tenures," Chouhan noted.
Chouhan highlighted the government's commitment to transparency in the registration and verification of beneficiaries, stating, “Maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has disbursed over Rs 3.04 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers across the nation.
With this release, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries since the inception of the scheme will cross well over Rs 3.24 lakh crore."
In addition to the release of funds, PM Modi will also present certificates to over 30,000 self-help groups recognized as Krishi Sakhis.
As he commenced the third term on June 10, PM Modi got interference with the farmers of significance started. He signed the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi. The scheme launched in February 2019 makes provisions for transferring Rs 6000 annually in three equal installments of Rs 2000 directly to the bank account of the farmer.
He further said through video link the programme will be availed by about 2.5 crore farmers across the country. Besides, 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, more than 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies and 5 lakh Common Service Centres shall participate in this programme to create awareness among farmers.
Several Union Ministers will visit 50 Krishi Vigyan Kendras to engage with farmers and promote various departmental schemes, also distributing certificates to the trained Krishi Sakhis.
After the Kisan Sammelan, PM Modi will visit the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple and take part in the renowned Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.
