Even as the death toll in the Gujarat floods touched 28 on Thursday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel referred to the crisis created by heavy rains continuously and the assurance of assistance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
CM Patel further said on his X handle, "For the fourth time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had once again called up to inquire about the situation and the relief measures being carried out in various districts.
"The Prime Minister has shown extra concern over the flooding of the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara and sought detailed information on the assistance provided to those affected.".
Besides that, PM Modi gave guidelines to solve the problems created in the flood-hit areas by sanitation and public health and assured the State of all possible support for the rescue operation. Following widespread flooding in Vadodara, Gujarat Ministers Rushikesh Patel and Jagdish Vishwakarma reached the city on Wednesday to oversee the relief work and ascertain the losses caused by rains.
The ministers made a tour of the flood-hit areas, held meetings with the local officials, and made an in-depth assessment of the overall situation at the grassroots level.
Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who is also the in-charge minister for Vadodara, is scheduled to visit the city later on Thursday to meet the people affected by the floods and to have his own assessment of the relief work undertaken.
The city is still a matter of grave concern for recovery, as floodwaters have just started to recede since the Ajwa Sarovar gates were closed.
The Chief Minister has called the ministers to his residence today, asking for a detailed report on the situation.
Six animals also died because of the floods at the Kamati Baug Zoo in Central Gujarat when water entered enclosures.
Sources state that carcasses of deer and Blue Bulls were found in their respective enclosures, and their bodies were completely covered by tree branches.
People are infuriated, and this incident has led to the accusation that despite several warnings on the increasing water levels in Vishwamitri River, no sufficient action was taken by the zoo authority to save the animals.
In another incident, a crocodile was spotted on the rooftop of a house in Vadodara, posing a danger to the lives of the residents as the city was still battling the aftermath of the excessive rain.
