Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday participated in the Christmas celebrations at the residence of Union Minister George Kurian and met some of the most prominent members of the Christian community, showcasing the spirit of cultural inclusivity and celebration.
The event allowed PM Modi to engage with prominent figures from the Christian community, further reinforcing the government's commitment to fostering strong ties with the religious group.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi said, "Attended the Christmas celebrations at the residence of Union Minister George Kurian Ji. Also interacted with eminent members of the Christian community @GeorgekurianBjp."
George Kurian was inducted as a Union minister in the third Narendra Modi government on June 9 earlier.
Hailing from Kerala's Kottayam, Kurian is a no-frills BJP leader and is noted for his soft-spoken style and being a popular BJP representative on TV news channels.
He started his political life as a student activist with the student wing of the Janata Party in 1977 and, in 1980, joined the BJP, with which he has ever since been.
Kurian was named as the Vice-Chairman of the National Minorities Commission in 2017.
Though he hails from Kottayam, he has also worked in Delhi. Kurian had worked there as the officer on special duty to then Minister of State for Railways O. Rajagopal during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government during 1999-2004.
Kurian's ministerial post is being seen as an outreach to the Christian community.
Jesus is considered by Christians the Son of God, with teachings and sacrifices that would change the spiritual development of human beings.
Christmas in the Christian world is also a very important religious activity.
It commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ; who is believed to have come to earth with a mission to save people.
His teachings emphasized sacrifice, love, and compassion as much as possible.
Christmas, as held by the Christians, marked a world changed through the birth of Jesus: greed and evil had to make room for happiness and hope.
Christmas also represents other significant acts done by Jesus. For example, he was crucified and resurrected. Some ways people use to mark these are singing carols, holding religious services, and prayers.
