On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the nation's pride in its ‘Annadatas’ and extended congratulations to farmers nationwide for the successful completion of six years of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
Reaffirming the government's dedication to supporting farmers, he highlighted that the initiative has bestowed respect, prosperity, and newfound strength to India’s food providers.
This announcement comes just ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to Bhagalpur district in Bihar, where he is set to release more than Rs 22,000 crore as part of the 19th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme. This financial aid, which will be directly transferred via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, is designed to cut out intermediaries and guarantee that farmers receive their rightful benefits without delays or discrepancies.
The Prime Minister took to X to share a message, writing, “We are proud of our Annadatas,” while outlining various government schemes intended to improve farmers' lives. He also pointed out that, over the past decade, significant strides have been made in the country's agricultural sector. “Due to our efforts, the agriculture sector in the country has rapidly developed,” he noted in a separate post. “The financial aid being provided to millions of small farmers has improved their access to markets, reduced agricultural costs, and increased their incomes.”
Offering his heartfelt congratulations, he said, “Many congratulations to our farmer brothers and sisters across the country on the completion of 6 years of PM-Kisan. It brings me immense satisfaction and pride that approximately three and a half lakh crore rupees have reached their accounts so far. This initiative is granting respect, prosperity, and new strength to those who feed our nation.”
Introduced in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme was established to offer financial support to farmers, ensuring stability and enhancing crop production. Over the years, the program has proven instrumental in reducing agricultural costs and improving farmers' financial well-being.
In addition to the PM-KISAN fund distribution, PM Modi will unveil several new initiatives aimed at strengthening Bihar’s agricultural, dairy, and rural economy. Among these, the government has raised the loan limit under the Kisan Credit Card scheme from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, ensuring greater financial accessibility for farmers.
A significant advancement for the dairy sector will come with the establishment of a modern dairy plant in Barauni, which will be built with an investment of Rs 113.27 crore. With a daily processing capacity of two lakh litres, the plant is expected to boost milk production and processing in the region. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Motihari Regional Centre of Excellence (CoE) under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, backed by an investment of Rs 33.80 crore, which aims to improve cattle breeding and dairy productivity.
A key milestone will also be marked with the launch of the 10,000th Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO). This initiative is designed to empower farmers by providing them with better market access and collective bargaining power. Since the FPO scheme was introduced in 2020 with a budget of Rs 6,865 crore, Rs 254.4 crore in equity grants has been provided to 4,761 FPOs, while Rs 453 crore in credit guarantees has been allocated to 1,900 FPOs.
Beyond agricultural initiatives, PM Modi will inaugurate important infrastructure projects in Bihar. The Warisaliganj-Nawada-Tilaiya Rail Doubling Project, valued at Rs 526 crore, will enhance rail connectivity across the region. Another significant development is the Ismailpur-Rafiganj road-over-bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 47 crore, which will alleviate traffic congestion and improve transportation.
These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to empowering farmers, strengthening the dairy and cattle farming sectors, and improving Bihar’s infrastructure. Through initiatives focused on financial aid, modern agricultural practices, and enhanced connectivity, the Centre continues to foster rural development and economic growth across India.
