In a tweet in which he expressed his shock over the attack, PM Modi wrote, "Deeply shocked by the reports of the attack on Slovakia's Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Robert Fico. I strongly condemn this cowardly and despicable act and wish PM Fico a speedy recovery. India stands firmly in solidarity with the people of the Slovak Republic."

According to reports from local media, the Slovak Prime Minister's condition has stabilised following surgery and his life is no longer in immediate danger.
The attack has been characterised as a politically motivated attempt on the Prime Minister's life, confirmed the Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok.
Estok said, "It was politically motivated and the plan was hatched immediately after the presidential election," adding that the incident was triggered by "hate spread on social media."
