On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the government's commitment to modernizing laws in alignment with the current context and international best practices. Speaking at the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Supreme Court, he highlighted the transformative impact of three new criminal justice laws on India's legal, policing, and investigative systems.
Recognizing the significance of a seamless transition from centuries-old laws, the Prime Minister stated that training and capacity building for government employees are already underway. Modi urged the Supreme Court to actively participate in enhancing the capabilities of other stakeholders, emphasizing the need for a well-empowered judicial system as an integral part of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India).
Highlighting the Jan Vishwas Bill as a pivotal step towards building trust in the judicial system, Modi expressed optimism that it would alleviate unnecessary burdens on the judiciary. He commended the Supreme Court for its role in strengthening India's vibrant democracy, citing landmark verdicts on individual rights and freedom of speech that have shaped the socio-political landscape.
Linking today's economic policies to a brighter future, Modi asserted that the laws crafted today would contribute to the foundation of a prosperous India tomorrow. In the global context, he underscored the growing faith in India and the need to capitalize on every opportunity. Additionally, the Prime Minister disclosed the government's recent approval of Rs 800 crore for the expansion of the Supreme Court building, underlining its commitment to enhancing judicial infrastructure.
