Tripura, Jharkhand save Congress blushes in bypolls

In Jharkhand, Congress has registered a win in the bypoll increasing the party's tally in the state. Shilpi Neha Tirkey has won but the party lost in Andhra Pradesh with YSRCP sweeping the polls. The Congress could not win the Sangrur bypoll despite AAP losing the battle with SAD(A) winning the seat. In Sangrur, the bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from Lok Sabha after he was elected as an MLA.

"However, at that time, Shinde had dilly-dallied, was evasive and did not give a proper response... I had heard of some murky goings-on... In a letter to the Union Home Secretary A.K. Bhalla, Koshyari said that he had received a representation on Saturday (June 25) from 38 Shiv Sena MLAs, 2 of Prahar Janshakti Party and 7 independents, that the police security to their families "has been illegally and unlawfully withdrawn". The Governor added that he has already directed the state police to provide adequate cover to the MLAs, their families and homes on priority.

Para 4 of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, the law on defection, says "the merger of the original political party of a member of a House shall be deemed to have taken place if, and only if, not less than two-thirds of the members of the legislature party concerned have agreed to such merger". It stressed that the merger has to be between two political parties.

The results of three Lok Sabha and seven Assembly constituencies spread in different states where bypolls were held on June 23 were declared on Sunday. Lok Sabha bypolls were held in two seats of Uttar Pradesh -- Rampur and Azamgarh -- and one seat of Punjab. Bypolls were held for one assembly seat each in Delhi, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, and four seats of Tripura.
Murmu suffered many personal losses in journey to top post

In just six years between 2009 and 2015, Murmu lost her husband, two sons, mother and brother. She had three children -- two sons and a daughter. One of her sons died in 2009 and the second son died in a road accident three years later. Earlier, she lost her husband Shyam Charan Murmu due to cardiac arrest. Her daughter Itishree works in a bank in Odisha.
BJP wrests Rampur, Azamgarh from SP in UP

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that the results were a seal of approval on his working and his government. He said that the results were a vindication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies.
