Dismal show in Tripura by-polls leaves Trinamool clueless

The question that is also haunting the party leadership is whether these results are signs of what the Trinamool Congress could be facing in the Tripura assembly polls next year. The by-polls were held in four assembly seats in Tripura -- Agartala, Jubarajnagar, Surma and Town Bordowali. Chief Minister Manik Saha contested from Town Bordowali and has won.
With Sangrur defeat, AAP loses Lok Sabha presence

Gurmail Singh, who is the AAP's Sangrur district in-charge, lost the seat, a stronghold of now Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, to Shiromani Akali Dal-Amritsar candidate Simranjit Singh Mann by a margin of over 5,800 votes. Simranjit Mann was last elected from the same seat in 1999. The bypoll was held as Bhagwant Mann resigned after he was elected as an MLA in the March Assembly elections and became the Chief Minister.
Nirahua's 'simplicity' won him hearts and votes in Azamgarh

Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua won many hearts when he won the Lok Sabha by-elections from Azamgarh on Sunday. "When he came, we thought he would be like other stars, but within no time he endeared himself to the party workers, and then the voters. He never threw any tantrums, and became one of us. This made every party worker work overtime to ensure his success in the elections," says Ram Prakash Yadav, a local BJP leader.

In the June 23 by-polls, result of which declared on Sunday, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three seats including that of Chief Minister Manik Saha who has been elected to the state assembly for the first time from Town Bordowali defeating Congress candidate Asish Kumar Saha by a margin of 6,104 votes.

But in 1989 when Mann, a long-time supporter of Khalistan movement who said Sikhs are not terrorists and they are fighting for a cause, was elected with a record margin of over four lakh votes from the Tarn Taran Lok Sabha seat he was debarred from entering the LS carrying his sword and he failed to attend the House.
Guwahati: Rebel Sena MLAs hold meeting; celebrate legislator's birthday

The Sena rebels will stay in the Guwahati hotel for a few more days. Sources had earlier said their stay was booked up to June 28 which has now been extended up to June 30. Supreme Court to hear on Monday pleas by Shinde, rebels against disqualification notices

Maharashtra has been facing a political crisis after Shinde and rebel MLAs left the state, protesting against the alliance with the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party. The rebel MLAs have been camping in a hotel in Assam's Guwahati for the past few days. The Deputy Speaker had issued notices to the 16 rebel MLAs on the disqualification plea by Thackeray's team.
