State Prison Department sources said that throughout the day the former minister mostly confined himself within the cell, and avoided interaction with anybody by spending most of the time lying down and closing his eyes. There was no special menu on the occasion and whatever was served to him in breakfast and lunch, he consumed it silently, an official said.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka, said that the summons issued by the ED is "sheer madness" by the BJP. "This is why the state Law Minister J C Madhuswamy had said that the BJP government is not functioning but are somehow managing the government for the next seven to eight months. Enforcement Directorate summons Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar on Oct 7 in PMLA case

"You (D.K. Shivakumar) are once again directed to yourself before me at my office for recording your statement on Oct 7, as per summons dated Sept 23," read the notice issued by Kuldeep Singh, Assistant Director of ED. The notice says summons have been issued under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. Shivakumar had earlier stated that he would not hesitate to attend any inquiry by the central agency.

Sonia joins Bharat Jodo Yatra in Karnataka

The party workers and leaders were looking forward to the top leader's participation, seeing it as a morale booster for the workers which will improve the party's prospects in the state. Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed from Mandya district after the break of two days in view of Vijayadashami and Dussehra festivals. Former opposition leader of Rajyasabha Mallikarjun Kharge is also expected to join Bharat Jodi Yatra.
