Modi won't be able to stop Kejriwal's work in Delhi: Sisodia

Addressing the media outside the courtroom, Sisodia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be able to stop Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's work in the national capital. "Modi ji may try as much as he wants, but he won't be able to stop the work of Kejriwal ji in Delhi. Modi ji may conspire as much as he wants.

Delhi court extends Sisodia's ED custody in excise policy case

On Friday, Special Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court had denied bail to Sisodia holding that that the evidence, prima facie, "speaks volumes" of his involvement in commission of the offence. The judge had also said that the purported medical condition of Sisodia's wife was not a reason to grant him bail in this case.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Afzal Ansari. As per Parliament norms, any member sentenced to two years or more in prison automatically stands disqualified. Earlier in the day, the same court convicted and sentenced Afzal's younger brother, jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, to 10 years in in the same Gangsters Act case.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari, who's lodged in Banda Jail, was presented through video conferencing. Before the court hearing, the wife of late BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, who was murdered in Ghazipur in 2005, said: "I believe in the judiciary. The rule of goons and mafias has ended in Uttar Pradesh."

The plea filed by Uma Krishnaiah, the wife of G. Krishnaiah, contended that life imprisonment awarded as a substitute for death penalty has to be carried out strictly as directed by the court, and it would be beyond application of remission. The sentence of imprisonment for life given to a convict as a substitute for death sentence must be viewed differently and segregated from the ordinary life imprisonment given as the sentence of first choice.
