Unification of MCDs will improve its financial position: Maken

Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken said, "The consensus is that along with being administratively beneficial, the unification of the municipal corporations will improve its financial position. The Union government should have brought this Bill at least six months earlier to prevent any delay in MCD elections."
UP MLC polls: Nomination papers of 3 SP candidates rejected, BJP to get walkover on 2 seats

The papers of an independent candidate were also rejected along with the papers of two SP candidates for the two MLC seats of Etah-Mathura-Mainpuri, paving the way for unopposed election of BJP candidates. The BJP candidates are likely to be declared winners on March 24, the day for withdrawal of nominations in Etah.
ED hovers close to Thackeray, attaches brother-in-law's properties

The action follows a money-laundering case registered in March 2017 against Pushpak Bullion and other group companies under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED said.

Akhilesh, Azam resign from Lok Sabha, to battle it out in UP

Akhilesh Yadav has resigned from the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat while Azam Khan has given up his Rampur Lok Sabha seat. Akhilesh will now retain his Karhal assembly seat and Azam Khan will keep his Rampur seat. The decision to retain the assembly seats by these two leaders is a clear indication that the SP will continue to fight the BJP on its home turf.
Swati Singh moves court to revive divorce petition

Appearing before the court, the former Minister stated that she had earlier filed divorce petition against her husband in 2012 and the court had issued notice to her husband for filing his reply. Meanwhile, she contested the Assembly election from Sarojini Nagar seat in 2017 and became an MLA. Thereafter, she became a Minister also and her divorce petition was dismissed in 2018 as she could not appear before the court.
UP Congress leader wants Priyanka to resign

Party leaders are now demanding the resignation of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who is in charge of Uttar Pradesh. AICC member Zeeshan Haider, who was recently expelled from the party, has written a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying that in keeping with the party tradition, Priyanka must also take the responsibility for the party's dismal performance in the Assembly polls and step down from her post.
