BJP got increased support from all castes in UP polls
The alliance has 117 such MLAs whereas the SP alliance has only 11. The BSP, Congress and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) have one MLA each from upper caste category. All SC/ST MLAs have won only in the reserved constituencies, within which, the BJP alliance has the highest number (65) followed by the SP alliance (20) and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) (1).
Online gambling: Karnataka CM expresses helplessness
The Karnataka government has expressed its helplessness over reining in online gambling in the state. The High Court had recently given directions striking down guidelines framed by the government criminalising online gaming and betting.
DMK slams ally Congress for election debacle in five states
The DMK has lashed out at the Congress for the debacle in the recent elections to the five states. In its editorial on Monday, the party mouthpiece 'Murasoli' said that the lethargic attitude of the Congress to unite other opposition parties in its fold was the reason for the drubbing in the polls. The editorial also said that opposition unity was the need of the hour to oust the BJP from the centre.
Discriminatory laws were removed from J&K: Nirmala Sitharaman
Speaking at the debate on Budget 2022-23 for J&K in the Lok Sabha, she said that what B.R. Ambedkar gave to the SC/ST communities is now available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "This country cannot have two symbols, two Prime Ministers or two Constitutions. We have a Constitution which we respect... And every time we discuss the people who gave us the Constitution, we all respectfully raise the name of Ambedkar," she said.
MVA govt asks CID to probe Fadnavis' new 'pen-drive'
Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, who handed over the pen-drive - his second in the past 6 days - to the Speaker, along with other BJP members, also demanded that the matter be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Later, Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil announced that the state CID would probe the 'pen-drive' bomb in which, among the allegations, are irregularities by Special Public Prosecutor Pravin Chavan.
JD-U defends Nitish Kumar after verbal spat with Speaker
Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Bihar, appeared soon after the spat between Kumar and speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha, saying that the Chief Minister has given explanation based on laws in the Constitution. "Nitish Kumar has given explanations based on laws in the Constitution. He rightly pointed out that the investigation report will be submitted in the court," Chaudhary said.

BJP keeps CM aspirants guessing in three states by not taking final decision
The BJP is keeping its aspirants guessing in three states as the party has not decided who will be the Chief Minister in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur with the delay in calling the legislative party meetings. The party emerged victorious in four state assembly polls and there is no certainty over the chief ministers except in Uttar Pradesh.
Naidu calls for productive second half of Budget session
Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday expressed concern over the low attendance of members in the Parliamentary standing committee meetings and also called for a productive second part of the Budget session. Referring to the first part of the Budget session, he said that the first half had a good productivity of around 101.40 per cent, adding that the members should attend the proceedings of the House to make it more productive.
BJP took a headstart from first phase of UP polls
The first phase of polls was considered tough for the BJP, mainly because of farmers' agitation and Jat anger. Besides, this was the first time that Jats and Muslims were voting together after the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. Jayant Chaudhary was also riding high on the wave of sympathy since this was the first election after his father Ajit Singh's demise.
