Top OBC leaders bite dust in UP polls

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections that concluded on Thursday, banked largely on the consolidation of OBC leaders in almost all the major political parties. However, the poll results have shown up shocking results as a number of prominent OBC leaders have lost their seats. The most shocking defeat is that of former BJP minister Swami Prasad Maurya, who led a revolt of sorts in the BJP in January and joined the Samajwadi Party.
Taking a cue from UP, BJP may field 170-180 fresh faces in Rajasthan

Taking the recent BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh as a case study, the BJP in Rajasthan may field 170-180 fresh candidates in the next Assembly elections to be held in 2023, party sources said. As per party officials, the BJP in Uttar Pradesh denied tickets to at least 104 sitting MLAs, who remained comparatively inert or inactive both in the organisation and in their constituencies during their tenure.
CWC authorises Sonia to undertake 'comprehensive' organisational changes

"The recent Assembly election results of five states are a cause of serious concern for the Indian National Congress. The party accepts that due to shortcomings in our strategy, we could not effectively expose the misrule of BJP state governments in four states and overcome the anti-incumbency in the state of Punjab in the short time after effecting a change of leadership," said the CWC resolution.

Sonia Gandhi offers to 'step back' from top role, CWC turns down

Sources said she indicated that she may step back if the CWC wants but the CWC did not endorse it. The CWC reposed faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and every single member said that she should continue till organisational elections. Party chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said: "The deliberations of the CWC is not open and many people spoke but the CWC statement is the final conclusion of the meeting."
Pawan Kalyan set to unveil political plans at Amaravati meet

In a major development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced that two former Union Ministers -- Shatrughan Sinha and Babul Supriyo -- will contest the upcoming West Bengal bypolls for the Trinamool Congress.The chief minister announced that Shatrughan Sinha will be the party's candidate for bypoll to Asansol Lok Sabha seat, and Babul Supiyo will be the candidate for Ballygunge Assembly constituency.
BJP workers celebrate by crushing bicycles with bulldozer in UP

Overzealous BJP workers in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district crushed a row of bicycles with a bulldozer to celebrate their party's success in the state's Assembly polls. While the bicycle is the Samajwadi Party (SP) symbol, the bulldozer had become synonymous with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's campaign against the mafia.
