The Election Commission took this step after issuing show cause notices to both Surjewala and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the offensive comments directed at Hema Malini.

Judge Rakesh Syal of Rouse Avenue Court instructed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to submit a response to the application and scheduled the hearing for April 18.
