Omar Abdullah Condemns BJP's CAA Notification as Manipulative Ramadan Gesture

His comments surfaced in response to the Union Home Ministry's announcement of the rules for the CAA, which facilitates citizenship for non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the J&K National Conference Party, expressed his concerns on Tuesday regarding the recent notification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) by the BJP, deeming it a Ramadan gift to Muslims that contradicts the fundamental principles of the Constitution.

His comments surfaced in response to the Union Home Ministry's announcement of the rules for the CAA, which facilitates citizenship for non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Addressing reporters at the party headquarters, Abdullah criticized the timing of the CAA notification, pointing out its proximity to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He suggested that this move reveals the BJP's lack of confidence in securing a substantial victory, speculating that the party intends to exploit religious sentiments for electoral gains.

Abdullah remarked, "The BJP's decision to enact the CAA just before the elections indicates their inclination towards religious polarization as a political strategy. Despite the construction of the Ram Temple, which they believed would ensure their victory, it appears they perceive vulnerability in their position, prompting them to resort to divisive tactics."

He further highlighted the historic targeting of Muslims by the BJP and emphasized that the CAA specifically singles out Muslims, thereby intensifying concerns over the party's intention to fuel communal divisions for electoral advantages.

In Abdullah's view, the BJP's utilization of the CAA as a tool for political polarization underscores their ongoing agenda to marginalize and exploit minority communities for electoral gains.
