Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took a dig at JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar over his recent change of allegiance, calling him a "snollygoster" or a shrewd and unprincipled politician. Tharoor shared a social media post from 2017 when Kumar had previously switched sides, leaving the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar to join the BJP. Tharoor's post in 2017 defined "snollygoster" as a shrewd, unprincipled politician, and he revisited the term in his recent post, not explicitly naming Kumar but making the context clear.
Tharoor, known for his extensive vocabulary, had used "snollygoster" in 2017 when Kumar first made a political switch. He repeated the usage in 2019 during the political developments in Maharashtra and again in November 2022, criticizing party-hopping politicians.
The Congress, reacting to Kumar's resignation and departure from the Mahagathbandhan alliance, also compared him to a "chameleon" and accused him of betrayal. Kumar's decision has dealt a blow to the opposition bloc in Bihar.
