Narendra Modi will take the oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on Sunday, June 9.
Modi himself made the announcement in this regard after he came out of his meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The prime minister said that the president has given him the letter appointing him as the designated prime minister. Modi said that he has informed the president that the evening of June 9 would be convenient for the oath-taking ceremony.
The president has asked him to submit the list of ministers who will take oaths with him on Sunday.
Earlier, senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi had also said that Narendra Modi would take the oath at 6 p.m. on June 9. Joshi had made the announcement during the NDA parliamentary party meeting in the Central Hall of the old Parliament Building, where Modi was chosen as their leader.
Several Chief Ministers and other significant leaders from the NDA, besides the MPs, were part of the meeting. Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh proposed a resolution, supporting Modi's leadership, which the leaders of the alliance and MPs seconded.
After Modi is formally elected as leader of NDA MPs, key allies like TDP's N Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar, and Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde will accompany him to meet President Droupadi Murmu and hand over the list of supporting parliamentarians.
In a break from tradition, Naidu, Kumar, and Shinde, besides leaders like Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Anupriya Patel, and Pawan Kalyan, were also seen on the main stage with senior BJP leaders. At the moment, the NDA has 293 MPs in the Lok Sabha, well above the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member house.
Senior leaders of the BJP, including Shah, Singh, and Nadda, have been in talks with their allies to work out an agreement on fair representation in the new government and to ensure that its stability is guaranteed.
