Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra on Thursday demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation over an alleged Mysore Urban Development Authority scam on Thursday.
"We met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and requested him for a CBI inquiry into the MUDA scam. We also sought the resignation of CM Siddaramaiah. He is bound to resign," Vijayendra told reporters after the BJP-JD(S) delegation met the governor.
The delegation comprised BJP chief B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R. Ashoka, and JD(S) MLA C.B. Suresh Babu.
Vijayendra launched a frontal attack on the Siddaramaiah government by charging it with irregularities even in the Valmiki Development Corporation. He termed the High Court stay on an FIR against ED officials involved in probing the Valmiki scam a set back to the state government.
"ED is investigating the Valmiki scam but Congress protested about it. But the court stayed the FIR. It is a slap to this government. The ruling party is now scared," he said.
Valmiki scam: The alleged illegal transfers of funds from the Maharshi Valmiki ST Corporation, which runs the social and welfare schemes for the members of Scheduled Tribes, were referred to. Early this month, ED has arrested former Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra in the case.
On Thursday, BJP and JD(S) MLAs spent night protesting inside Karnataka Vidhan Soudha where they remained inside the assembly slumbering after Speaker rejected their demand for a House discussion. BJPs also protested inside the House demanding an independent probe.
Earlier, social activist Snehamayi Krishna had filed a complaint against CM Siddaramaiah and nine others for alleged document forgery to claim compensation from MUDA. It says that Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy, brother-in-law Malikarjuna Swamy Devaraj and the rest of the family have indulged in the act of wrongdoing by saying MUDA had forged the documents to acquire valuable plots. The BJP has sought to return the land allocated to the CM's family. It says that Siddaramaiah has encroached upon the Dalit community's land.
