Mother of Kirti Chakra Awardee Urges Unity in Army Following Meeting with Rahul Gandhi

The Kirti Chakra was awarded posthumously to Manju Singh's son, Captain Anshuman Singh, for his bravery during the rescue operation of people from a fire incident. Rahul Gandhi offered full support to her and said that he is fully against the Agniveer scheme, which he termed not apt for the Army.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with Manju Singh, the mother of Kirti Chakra awardee Captain Anshuman Singh—who recently came out against the Agnipath scheme and asked the government not to divide the Army into two. She remarked that four years of a job under the Agnipath plan might not see them through to a secure career path for Agniveers hereafter. "They will have to bear difficulties in shifting to other professions after four years. It will hamper the mental and physical health as well," she added.

It is during his Raebareli visit that Gandhi reached out to locals, visiting AIIMS, and later paying homage at a temple. His meeting with Manju Singh, wife of martyr Aubaris Singh, underlines that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, as in the past, continues to reach out to matters concerning armed forces and their families.
