Modi’s guarantee works outside India too: EAM Jaishankar on Repatriating Indians from Seized Ship in Iran

S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, exuded confidence on Monday regarding the repatriation of 17 Indian crew members stranded aboard a cargo ship detained by Iran. He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to assisting Indians not only within the nation but also abroad.

Regarding the detained crew of MSC Aries, Jaishankar initiated discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Sunday, urging Iran to release them promptly.

"We are urging the Iranian government to release the crew without further delay," Jaishankar emphasized, noting the ongoing engagement between Indian embassy officials and Iranian authorities. "I await reports from our embassy personnel after they meet the Indian crew. This will be a crucial step for me," he added.

Acknowledging the complexities of the current global landscape, Jaishankar emphasized the need for astute leadership, praising Prime Minister Modi's global stature and ability to navigate challenging geopolitical scenarios effectively.

"In the face of international conflicts in Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and tensions in maritime regions, experienced leadership is imperative. Prime Minister Modi embodies this with his global vision and respect," Jaishankar elaborated.

Highlighting India's evolving global role, Jaishankar emphasized its proactive stance under Modi's leadership, citing examples such as chairing the G20 and providing assistance to nations during the pandemic.

"Our international reputation has soared, exemplified by our leadership in the G20 and our humanitarian efforts during the pandemic. We aspire to be a global partner, combating terrorism, safeguarding borders, and asserting clear positions," Jaishankar affirmed.

He reiterated the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto, outlining a vision for the next 25 years aimed at fostering a developed India.
