Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday again replied sharply to the comments of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on her party's recent political position.
Posted on X, Mayawati claimed, "It is a general talk that Congress fought Delhi Assembly General Elections as BJP's B-team this time, because of which the BJP got victories there."
She also asserted, "Otherwise, Congress would not have met with such a humiliating defeat in this election, to the point that the majority of its candidates failed even to save their deposits."
Lambasting the Congress leader in direct terms, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh stated, "It would be more appropriate on the part of the supreme leader of that party, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, to reflect on himself before leveling accusations against others, especially the BSP chief. This is my advice to him."
Rahul Gandhi had earlier expressed disappointment over Mayawati’s political stance while speaking to Dalit students in his parliamentary constituency, Raebareli. As quoted by PTI, he said, "I wanted Behenji to join us in the fight against the BJP, but for some reason, she chose not to. That was deeply disappointing. If all three parties had united, the BJP would never have won."
Going on the counter-attack, Mayawati put up a series of posts in Hindi on X, highlighting Congress's supposed double standards. "Where Congress is in power or is strong in a state, it has enmity and a casteist approach towards the BSP and its workers. But in Uttar Pradesh, where it is weak, the party suddenly believes in an alliance with the BSP. If this is not hypocrisy, then what is?" she posted on Thursday.
Meanwhile, BSP workers staged a protest against Rahul Gandhi’s remarks by putting up posters in Raebareli, as reported by ANI.
The posters accused him of adopting “double standards” and attempting to project himself as a well-wisher of Dalits.
One of the posters said, "Rahul Gandhi ji, enough of your double standards. On the one hand, you are deceiving the community by projecting yourself as a benefactor of Dalits, going to the memorials of Mool Bharatiya Veer Pasi ji to get Scheduled Caste votes. On the other hand, you are letting your party leaders make a case for the political oppression of Mayawati, a four-term Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a respected leader among Dalits."
