Manipur Government Refuses Permission for Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Launch at Imphal's Palace Grounds

"We received information that the Government of Manipur declined our request to hold the yatra in Palace Ground, Imphal... When we are starting a yatra from East to West, how can we avoid Manipur? Then what message are we giving to the people of the country?" questioned Venugopal.

The Manipur government has reportedly denied permission for the launch of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra at Imphal's Palace Ground, according to allegations by the opposition Congress. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, addressing the media, expressed disappointment and revealed that the Yatra would now commence from a different location in Manipur.

The Congress leader added that the details of the new venue for commencing the Yatra would be disclosed at a later time.

Initially slated to start on January 14 from Imphal, the Yatra faced uncertainties as Chief Minister Biren Singh stated on Tuesday that the decision to permit Congress's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' was under "active consideration." A final decision would be made after receiving reports from security agencies.

The 'Bharat Nyay Yatra' is planned to cover 6,713 km by bus and on foot, spanning 110 districts, 100 Lok Sabha constituencies, and 337 assembly segments in 66 days, concluding on March 20 in Mumbai. The yatra will be flagged off by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of chief ministers of Congress-ruled states and other top party leaders.
