Mamata Expresses Doubt: Congress May Struggle to Secure Even '40 Seats' in LS Polls

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee predicted that the Congress party will suffer significant losses in terms of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Banerjee, who has declared that the Trinamool Congress will contest the elections independently in West Bengal, expressed doubt about the Congress's ability to win even 40 seats. She criticized the Congress's strength to take on the BJP in states ruled by the saffron party in North India.

During her two-day sit-in demonstration against the non-payment of central dues to West Bengal, Banerjee also ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi without explicitly naming him. She mocked Rahul Gandhi's mass outreach during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, particularly referring to his interaction with 'bidi' workers in North Bengal.

Banerjee emphasized that the Trinamool Congress alone has the capacity to resist the BJP in West Bengal and accused the Congress of not sending her an official invitation to attend the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra when it entered West Bengal. She criticized the Congress for not informing the state government about the rally's entry into West Bengal and highlighted the lack of coordination between the two parties.
