National Bahujan Samaj Party coordinator Akash Anand was in the news on Sunday over a hate speech he delivered in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Officials have confirmed the registration of a case against the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Anand, and also the rally organisers, where Anand, the nephew of party head Mayawati, delivered the speech.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked the BSP, saying it was the latest breeding ground for nepotism. BJP spokesman Rakesh Tripathi cited Anand's speech as further evidence of the desperate attempts of the BSP to grab attention.
He warned that derogatory remarks of the BSP leaders against the BJP would not go unpunished as they would face the consequences from both the Election Commission and the electorate.
Anand, at his speech at Sitapur rally, described the BJP government as a government of terrorists. He criticised the administration for being incapable of ensuring the safety of women, providing jobs for the youth, and for allegedly misusing elderly people through free distribution of rations.
Anand went on to compare the BJP government with that of the Taliban. According to him, it was a government that represses its people. He appealed to the Election Commission to observe the situation on the ground before coming to a conclusion on his remarks.
