Lalu arrested Advani in 1990 and BJP took revenge with him: RJD's Jagadanand Singh

“The action of Lalu Prasad Yadav was not threatening to divide the country or create communal frenzy in the country. His action was to stop communal violence. He had saved the country with his action. We have not taken revenge for anything,” RJD's Bihar President Jagadanand Singh said.

In wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi "guaranteeing" to the people to put corrupt politicians behind bars, RJD's Bihar President Jagadanand Singh on Tuesday claimed that his party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav had also put top BJP leaders into jail, but to save the country while they have taken action against him only in anger and revenge.

“At a time when BJP leaders were trying to create a communal frenzy in the country which may have created divisions of the country and hence (then Bihar Chief Minister) Lalu Yadav had arrested them to save the country. They were creating hysteria in the country to demolish the central government. Lalu Yadav had saved the country. Everyone gave the example about Lalu ji saying that if he was not there, the country may not have been saved,” he said, referring to the arrest of senior BJP leader L.K. Advani in Bihar in 1990 as his Rath Yatra and heading towards Ayodhya, possibly to demolish the structure of Babri mosque.

“The action of Lalu Prasad Yadav was not threatening to divide the country or create communal frenzy in the country. His action was to stop communal violence. He had saved the country with his action. We have not taken revenge for anything,” Singh said.

“Now, whatever BJP did with Lalu Prasad Yadav is in anger and trying to take revenge on him. People of the country know that Lalu Prasad Yadav has the capacity to save the country and hence every leader is with him,” Singh said.

On Tuesday, Modi gave a "guarantee" to put every corrupt politician in jail. Taking the names of the RJD, the Congress, the DMK, the Trinamool Congress and others, he alleged that their leaders were involved in corruption and scams.

His statement came days after 15 opposition parties met in Patna to discuss a strategy to take on the BJP in next year's Lok Sabha polls.
