On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated a resounding victory in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, securing wins for two out of the three Union Ministers it had fielded. However, Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste faced an unfortunate defeat.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar emerged victorious in the Dhimani Assembly seat of his home district Morena, clinching the win with a substantial margin of over 24,000 votes against BSP candidate Balveer Singh Dandotiya. Tomar garnered a total of 79,137 votes, while Dandotiya secured 54,676 votes.
Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, Prahlad Singh Patel, secured a significant victory from the Narsinghpur Assembly. He defeated Congress candidate Lakhan Singh Patel by an impressive margin of 110,226 votes.
Adding to the BJP's triumph, Kailash Vijayvargiya, the national General Secretary, emerged victorious in the Indore-1 seat, defeating sitting Congress MLA Sanjya Shukla by a considerable margin of 58,202 votes.
However, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Faggan Singh Kulaste, faced defeat in the Niwas Assembly seat of Mandla district. He lost to Congress candidate Chain Singh Warkade by 9,723 votes, with Warkade securing 99,644 votes and Kulaste receiving 89,921 votes. It is noteworthy that Kulaste has represented the Mandla constituency in the state Assembly on multiple occasions.
As per the latest figures from the Election Commission, the BJP had secured 137 seats in the 230-member house by 8:30 p.m. and was leading in 30 others. Meanwhile, the Congress had won 44 seats and was leading in 20 others. The election results signify a decisive victory for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.
