Kerala Governor Khan Holds Wayside Protest Amidst SFI Members' Black Flag Demonstration

In a dramatic incident, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan took matters into his own hands on Saturday, stepping out of his vehicle to sit in front of a wayside shop, demanding the arrest of activists from the Student Federation of India (SFI) who had protested against him in Nilamel, Kerala.

The Governor, visibly upset, grabbed a chair from the shop and sat down, insisting on action against the protesters. The visuals of the incident were broadcasted on TV channels, capturing Khan's stern conversation with the police personnel present. Alongside the police, his officials and local residents gathered in large numbers at the scene.

Earlier, while en route to a function in Kottarakkara, the Governor faced a black flag protest from several activists of the Student Federation of India, which is affiliated with the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. Tensions have been high between Khan and the Left government over various issues, including disagreements on the functioning of universities in the state and the Governor's refusal to sign certain bills passed by the assembly.

Amidst this ongoing face-off, the Governor had created a stir on Thursday by concluding his customary policy address to the Kerala Assembly within two minutes, reading only the last paragraph. The incident adds to the growing discord between the Governor and the state government.
