Governor Khan Concludes Address, Leaves Kerala Assembly After Reading Last Paragraph

The palpable discord persisted as Khan entered the Assembly's foyer, greeted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his delegation.

Tensions flared once again between Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and the ruling Left front during Thursday's customary address at the state Assembly, marking the beginning of the New Year session. In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Khan, engaged in a longstanding feud with the Left front, chose to read only the final paragraph from his extensive 60-page address.

The palpable discord persisted as Khan entered the Assembly's foyer, greeted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his delegation. Despite the outward display of courtesy, only Khan and Vijayan seemed devoid of smiles. When presented with a bouquet by Vijayan, Khan promptly passed it to his assistant, wearing a stern expression as he proceeded into the Assembly floor.

Following the introductory statement expressing his pleasure in addressing the House, Khan declared, "Now, I am going to read the last paragraph..." After delivering the concluding segment, the governor promptly took his leave. Even during the escort back to the foyer, Khan and Vijayan avoided eye contact, fueling speculations. When questioned by the awaiting media, Khan, folding his hands, chose not to divulge details and swiftly departed.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan condemned Khan's actions, deeming it disrespectful to the Assembly. "This should not have happened," remarked Satheesan. Deputy Leader of the Opposition P.K. Kunhalikutty added that the incident unfolded rapidly, turning the Assembly into a mockery. Expressing disappointment, Kunhalikutty revealed, "We were waiting to greet him, but he did not even look at us." The rift between Khan and the ruling Left front continues to escalate, with each public encounter adding another layer to their strained relationship.
