Kerala BJP Chief Calls for Explanation from MP Rahul Gandhi Over SDPI's Support to UDF Candidates

Surendran launched a scathing attack on MP Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party following declarations from prominent SDPI figures on Monday, announcing their intention to back candidates from the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the upcoming April 26 Lok Sabha elections in Kerala.

In a vehement critique aimed at his political adversary in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, Kerala BJP President, K Surendran, voiced sharp concerns over the alliance between sitting Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political arm of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).

Labeling the SDPI as an extension of the PFI, Surendran underscored the potential peril posed by this newfound political alignment to the nation's democratic framework.

"The Congress professes to uphold secular principles, so why are their local leaders now contemplating the statements of SDPI leaders? Even in Wayanad, the SDPI has pledged its support to Rahul. Rahul must elucidate this alliance," demanded Surendran.

Kerala Congress President, K Sudhakaran, assured that the party would deliberate on the matter before clarifying its stance on the SDPI's endorsement.

"What raises eyebrows is why the Congress leadership is entertaining discussions on accepting support from a group associated with terrorism? There are doubts whether there's a clandestine agreement between the SDPI and the Congress, and the latter must address this," Surendran further asserted.

Surendran is vying for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat against Rahul Gandhi and Annie Raja, the candidate from the Communist Party of India (CPI). Wayanad was a stronghold for the senior Congress leader, who secured victory with a staggering margin of over 4 lakh votes in the state during the 2019 polls.
