Karnataka BJP to stick to its stand of cancelling reservation for Muslims, According to Bommai

Bommai explained the court proceedings that had taken place and told the court that one of the Chief Minister's followers, Ravivarma Kumar, had filed a case in the Supreme Court with the alleged support of the Chief Minister. The CM had even sought time for the proceedings, but the Bommai's party's stand on Muslim reservations had not changed. He pointed out that the Constitution expressly prohibits any religion-based reservations. The fact that sub-sects of Muslims were included in the 2A category was against the spirit of the Constitution.

BJP candidate and former Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, reiterated the party's stance on scrapping reservations for Muslims in Karnataka. In an interview with media, Bommai accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of lying, especially about court cases on this case. He pointed out that the CM has still not told the court his government's position on this case.

Concerning the tragic murder of MCA student Neha Hiremath at a college campus in Hubballi, Bommai raised concerns regarding the probing of the case and said it has gone off track. He urged the state government to relinquish the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if it does not have the will to do so.

Bommai said the Congress aimed to divert attention from the case by selectively using the word politics. He said the protests of all opposition parties and Neha's parents, who are demanding a CBI probe, have been successful in driving away this attempt at diversion.

Responding to the Chief Minister's allegation of politicising the murder, Bommai questioned whether opposition parties should remain silent in the face of such an incident. He further said that public outrage and protests across the state cannot be silenced by any cause and that demanding justice for such a tragic incident cannot be seen as a political gimmick.
