Kangana Ranaut is a "fighter and will definitely fight back", Said Hema Malini, a BJP Member of Parliament and seasoned actress, expressed her support for Kangana Ranaut amidst a controversy sparked by derogatory remarks made by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate. is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
Malini commended Ranaut's resilience, stating that she is a fighter who will not back down easily. She emphasized Ranaut's suitability for politics, citing her courage and accomplishments as an artist "perfect for politics".
"Making such comments against a woman when you yourself are one is wrong," Hema Malini told PTI in an exclusive interview here.
The BJP's decision to field Ranaut from Mandi received widespread backing from party members, especially after disparaging comments surfaced on social media platforms against the actor and the constituency.
In response to Shrinate's comments, Malini condemned the lack of dignity displayed and urged her to retract her words. Shrinate defended herself by attributing the inappropriate post to unauthorized access to her social media accounts, promising to take corrective action.
Hema Malini said, "But the kind of comments Supriya ji made against her is not nice. She should have some dignity. She should take back her words."
"Just because she comes from a film background... She is an artiste and she has proved herself as a fine actor, she has got so many awards. She is very bold, outspoken. She takes part in everything. She is perfect for politics," she said.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by celebrities entering politics, Malini acknowledged that they may be perceived as soft targets, but asserted Ranaut's resilience and solidity in facing such hurdles.
"She has that capability and she has an interest in politics. As artistes, our vision for a place tends to be much better than a lot of people," she said.
As she seeks re-election from Mathura, Malini expressed confidence in Ranaut's capabilities and her genuine interest in public service. She believes that artists often possess a unique perspective on societal issues, making them valuable contributors to politics.
