JD-U Chief Lalan Singh Announces Resignation from Leadership Position

Addressing the gathering, Lalan Singh stated, "As I am busy in the Lok Sabha election in my own constituency, I am giving the resignation from the post of national president of the party. I also proposed the name of CM Nitish Kumar as a national president of the party."

In anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Lalan Singh, the national president of Janata Dal (United), tendered his resignation from the top party position in New Delhi on Friday. Singh cited his commitment to the election campaign in his home constituency as the reason for stepping down and presented his resignation during a two-day meeting in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, Lalan Singh stated, "As I am busy in the Lok Sabha election in my own constituency, I am giving the resignation from the post of national president of the party. I also proposed the name of CM Nitish Kumar as a national president of the party."

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the finance minister of the Bihar government and JD-U leader, confirmed the acceptance of Singh's resignation, stating, "Lalan Singh has given the resignation and it was accepted by the party."

The meeting also witnessed a proposal granting Nitish Kumar the authority to make decisions regarding alliances, seat-sharing formulas, candidate selection, and other crucial matters. All powers of the JD-U were consolidated in the hands of Nitish Kumar during this deliberation.
