According to Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor, Jan Suraaj is likely to contest upcoming by-elections for the Bela Ganj and Imam Ganj constituencies of Gaya district in Bihar. By-polls for these seats have been necessitated by the resignation of Surendra Yadav and Jitan Ram Manjhi, who resigned from their seats following their victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"If the by-polls are after October 2, Jan Suraaj will contest the elections directly. But if it is before October 2, we would select deserving candidates from Jan Suraaj, who would contest as independents", Kishor told media persons in Gaya.
Currently, Jan Suraaj is a Padyatra campaign and not a party. Kishor is leading the Padyatra across Bihar since 2nd October 2022 to prepare ground for the 2025 assembly elections. He has announced plans to formally launch his political party on October 2.
Sudhakar Singh, the incumbent Agriculture Minister, was elected from the Ramgarh constituency in the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections. He contested the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Buxar constituency and defeated BJP candidate Mithilesh Tiwari.
Similarly, Sudama Prasad of the CPI-ML party, who won the Tarari assembly seat in 2020, stood for the Lok Sabha in 2024 from Arrah constituency and won against BJP's R.K. Singh, securing one more important seat for his party.
These victories have entailed by-elections to the Ramgarh and Tarari Assembly constituencies, as these leaders have vacated their seats after moving on to the national level in the Lok Sabha.
