India will take firm, decisive actions against terrorists and their backers, says PM Modi

The attack, which resulted in the death of over 26 innocent civilians, has led to a harsh retaliation from New Delhi. During a joint press briefing with Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, PM Modi stated, "We stand strongly against terrorism. I appreciated President Lourenco and people of Angola extending their condolences to those martyred in the terror attack in Pahalgam."

Amid heightened tensions with Pakistan after a horrific terror strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated India's strong resolve to fight terrorism and those who support it.

Stressing India's determination, he further stated, "We are determined to act decisively and firmly against terrorists and those who provide support to them. We appreciate the support of Angola in the war against terrorism.

The attack was carried out by four militants affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Two of the gunmen were known to be Pakistani nationals. Emerging from forested ground near the attack site, they unleashed a senseless, indiscriminate shooting spree against a group of tourists, turning out to be one of the most ghastly terror attacks in recent history.

Reacting swiftly to the April 22 tragedy, Prime Minister Modi convened a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting the following day. The high-level session led to a series of sharp retaliatory measures against Pakistan.

Major steps involved suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari border point, revocation of all visas given to Pakistani nationals, and a across-the-board crackdown on Pakistani content platforms, including YouTube channels and social media accounts on X. Diplomatic relations were further toned down with India cutting the strength of Pakistan's High Commission, sending back several diplomats to Islamabad.

Issuing a stern warning following the CCS meeting, PM Modi said, "We will identify, trace, and punish each terrorist and their sympathizers. We will chase them to the ends of the Earth." This statement indicates a significant hardening of India's national security approach.

India's actions signal a tilt towards an unyielding policy against cross-border terrorism, with a clear message: any challenge to the country's sovereignty and security will be met with decisive force.
